Fyrinnae Week Part 1

So I'm on Fyrinnae Week as part of a pledge to ditch the neutral-eye-rosy-lip rut I've been mouldering in lately. I know MiraSundari is also concocting deliciousoutrageous things for her Kick The Rut week; will you join us in putting aside those tired old standbys for a whole seven days? :D

Some disclaimers before we start: most of my Fyrinnae shades are pressed and I don't need or use a base with these unless otherwise specified. All my swatches are made by patting on with a fingertip over bare, moisturised skin. There are many excellent  Fyrinnae swatches around, so if you want to see them in their loose natural state or packed over Pixie Epoxy, please hop over to Makeup Me Happy and then google is your oyster. Or something.

All pictures taken in natural light unless otherwise specified.

  1. I will skip all the pretty colors to ask the most important question: how do you like the Vapour foundation and concealer?

  2. I pulled out my Fyrinnae shadows this weekend to play, too. The neutral rut was getting to me.

Also - your hair - I love it.

    1. *fistbump* It's been helpful getting reacquainted with my favourites and quite naturally deciding there are some shades I won't need to repurchase when I've finished.

  3. Wow, those look great on you! Although I like neutrals on you just as well.
How do you like the KATE foundation? Does it have more coverage than (ironically) the High Coverage Foundation, where the Bright-up Color is so freaking sheer?

    1. Hi Julia :D Honestly this is sheer too -- the Bright Up shades are technically primers I suppose :/
It is however ironically quite powderY on me, though less drying than High Coverage.

    1. I enjoy setting arbitrary makeup challenges a little too much XD
Review before the end of the week!

    2. <3 well, this particular arbitrary makeup challenge has earned me about 7 compliments in the last 2 days, so I guess I really needed a bit more color in my life!

Apparently what it took for me to overcome my fear of bright sky blue eyeshadow was help from a kid. (Inspired by Suzy Bishop's Moonrise Kingdom makeup):

'“I loved that blue eyeshadow,” says Hayward, who explains that eye makeup was a way for Suzy to look beautiful and older and more mature. “I actually did my own hair and makeup. It was a lot of fun…Wes wanted authenticity, he wanted Suzy to be doing her own hair and makeup so that it looked like a 12-year-old girl doing it.”'

(Shu CR330 over lip balm lets me get away with it, and was enjoyable on such a grey day. Just wish I had those sultry low eyebrows, though at least my natural expression looks sulky.)

  18. Oh wow! To both your haircut and eyeshadows! Love them both. Far too pretty.

I was looking at your skin care routine and you mentioned the Ducray Emulsion. I tried looking for reviews, but there is nary a one. So I was wondering, what can you tell me about it? Texture? Finish? Feeling? Etc?

  19. Hi Hi, You have very gorgeous knits!
A few suggestions from a short hair girl (used-to-be),

    1. Go Shorter
Short sides - Badass rocker chick
    Short Fringe - Twiggy Cute

    2. Volume up or volume down.
Short hair can look flat and unflattering. No room for in-betweens.
So either you add body (usually good for the growing out stage) or keep it very tapered.

    Hope this helps.:)
