Prestigious Bordeaux Looks Part 1

aka Exploring Dora? The Vampire Dora Diaries? Anyway....

1. I set out to use all six shades in the palette, and kept the overal shape soft-but-defined, in an attempt to translate my current hankerings after 'graphic' makeup into more 'subtle/wearable' for day/work.
Bronze silk smooth shade (top right) all over lid and lower lashline as base.
Pink (middle left) in the inner third of lid and lower lashline.
Rose-brown to (middle right) to deepen/define outer corner.
Purple silk smooth (top left) to upper lashline and outer corner of lower.
Gold glitter (bottom left) dabbed at centre of mobile lid.
[GOSH white kohl on waterline, L'Oreal TFLWP mascara]

With the red blush (bottom right pan) and Suqqu Creamy Glow 6 Umegasumi (swatch/review).

2. A less forced look, built around my favourite pan in the palette, the awesome purple Silk Smooth shadow (top left). Because until my belated contacts order comes in, I'm constrained enough by my glasses. Anyway, it was about time I did a look with specs, to show some of the ways in which I tweak my makeup:

  • stronger defined eye shape, achieved with shadows (as here) or graphic liner
  • defined, slightly thickened brows
  • curled lashes and either no mascara or a single swipe of subtle defining (absolutely not lengthening) mascara, to prevent my lashes from being smushed up against my lenses whenever I blink (this is Armani ETK waterproof)
  • lined waterline -- either white (as here) or a dark/black shade
  • a bright blush (no neutrals with glasses) and lower placement on the apples
  • skip highlighter on edge of cheekbones / temples, keeping it strictly to the centre of the face
  • I can also skip undereye concealer but usually don't out of habit
Yeah, blah blah shutup Kate -- as you can see it's just minor tweaks for my own satisfaction as usual, and I could/would definitely wear this without glasses too...
Purple all over lid and lower lashline, rose-brown to blend edges, gold glitter patted over inner corner and blended up.

But hopefully they will make more sense in the context of my frames and where they sit on (and seriously distort, because I am bliiiiind) my face.
Blush is the Shu red pan, lips Korres Cherry Oil Gloss in 25 Natural Purple (which as you can see, aint remotely).

In both looks I'm wearing a mix of Laura Mercier Silk Creme Soft Ivory mixed with Suki CC Cream 02 Whitening and RBR Sea of Clouds highlighter as base. Burberry Sheer Touch 01 under eyes, Browlash EX Natural Brown brow pencil.

  1. Beautiful looks, although the last is my favorite. You should wear your glasses more often too! I ordered both of the palettes last night, in a lapse of self control :)

  2. I love both looks.

Thank you so much for explaining on how you wear your make up when you wear glasses (they look cute on you!). Up untill a little while ago I never thought of changing my make up when I started wearing glasses (duh 18 years ago?).

Yes under eye concealing is not that needed, but never thought of a lower placement of my blush.

Can you explain why you would not wear a neutral blush with glasses on? TIA!

    1. If your glasses don't take up so much cheekbone space I think you can do blush as usual -- my frames clash a little bit with my usual placement which is why I sometimes like to drop the blush :)

Again because my glasses look quite 'definite' (dark frames, largeish) on my face, I need the extra support / balance a bright blush brings :)

  3. Every post with the Loreal mascara make me want to touch your lashes - they look sooo long and feathery - heehee.

  4. Exploring Dora sounds so...wrong.

    Or maybe that's just me!

I think you look awesome with glasses, or else those glasses in particular just really suit you, either way you make me want glasses even though I would look rubbish in them.

Also your hair colour is so pretty!

    1. You would look not-rubbish even if you were actually strewn with rubbish :P

  5. Lol at Lizzie's comment! I will never be able to read this post in the same way again. :P

I adore the second look - that's exactly how I would wear this palette! If I could justify spending £45 just to obtain that look, I would buy it. The red blush looks so natural against your skin, dear! I've realised that I don't own a single red blush anymore, so I think that needs to be rectified ASAP!

Also, how do you apply the red blush? Isn't the pan tiny? D:

  7. perfection in the blending/mixing the eyecolours of both looks. I am simply smitten with that Suqqu 6 Umegasumi, sorry to say that as you put so much emphasis on the eyes, but that colour looks like the bees mixed rosegold with honey

  8. I would never ever skip undereye concealer when wearing glasses, I do find my glasses do darken the area, which is really not what I need.
You look absolutely stunning with those glasses on, Mrs Librarian, but I told you that already :)

    1. I can definitely picture that! I think it's a combo of where my frames hit and also the fact that my lenses make my eyes look miniscule, so no-one would be able to see dark circles anyway lol

  9. I LOVE your glasses on you! Holy cow, I hate how gorgeous you are because I want to be you. That is all.

  13. I love these looks!

I tried LM silk creme foundation but I just can't warm to it. It caked quite a bit on my dry winter skin.

    1. It does need quite a bit of prep and mixing on me -- I should do a post on that -- but ultimately foundation is so personal

    2. I would like to hear your thoughts - yours echoed mine completely on GA Maestro so I think we might think along the same lines!

  14. Beautiful and inspirational as always :). It's particularly interesting to see how you do glasses make-up. I am lazy about contacts and almost always wear my glasses but often feel like I'm ruining/wasting the effort on eye make-up once I put them on. I also need to experiment with blush placement more because my glasses crowd my face and affect the shadows -- some kind of architectural work is needed.

  15. So gorgeous!!! Wish you made house calls so you could come do my eyes like the second look...LOOOOVE!!! :-)

  16. You look GORGEOUS! The eye makeup, the current color of your hair, & the glasses? Seriously amazing! :)

  17. Thank you so very much for this post! <3

I am very nearsighted and can't wear contacts anymore so your tips and photos are inspirational -- girls with glasses can still look pretty and glamourous!

  19. I bought the Prestigious Bordeaux palette - your swatches tipped me over the edge. It's wonderful and lovely and as this post demonstrates, versatile too.

You look really good in spectacles! I can't see a thing without them so I can't wear eye makeup without my contacts. I'm going to try varying the position of my blush though... I love how precise your tweaks are.

  20. I really like your hair color!

  21. I love both your looks!! :) I'm not sure if I should pick this palette up. Scary Dora really puts me off this collection.

I'm a huge fan of silk creme. I have been using it religiously for three years and it suits my oily skin perfectly!
